The Conference “Eastern and Indigenous Perspectives on Sustainability and Conflict Resolution” will be held as part of International Week and USF World launch. We hope to engage your participation in this conference.
Dr. Yashwant Pathak (Assoc. Dean Faculty Affairs, USF College of Pharmacy), International Coordinator for a non-profit org, International Center for Cultural Studies ( http://iccsus.org/) and Dr Gurleen Grewal (Director, Center for India Studies) are the co-chairs of this conference.
The conference is cosponsored by Uberoi Foundation, Denver Colorado and USF Foundations, Tampa, Florida.
The purpose of this conference is to examine sustainable philosophies and practices from perspectives that are eastern (i.e. philosophies with Eastern origins such as Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Taoism, Confucianism and others) and Indigenous (such as Native American, Traditional African Culture, Aboriginals and other indigenous traditions and cultures). This conference aims to pay attention to the indigenous knowledge without essentialzing or valorizing them. We are interested in
- Exploring cases where traditional ecological knowledge has altered the dominant paradigm of unsustainable development
- Eastern religions and the encoding of ecological knowledge—in Indian Dharma traditions (Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh) , Indigenous (Native American, Australian aboriginal, African) and Asian traditions (Shinto, Confucian, and Taoist)
- Healthy sustainable communities and practices for individual and societal transformation
- Conflict resolution from eastern and indigenous perspectives
- Examining the plight of the indigenous peoples and their habitats under the economic forces of globalization
Please share this with your colleagues. Registration fees for two days conference is 50$ which covers the lunches on two days and registration kit and books of submitted abstracts.
